Making Peace

M

Job 22:21 (Message)

“Give in to God, come to terms with him and everything will turn out just fine.”

(Common English Bible)

“Get along well with God and be at peace; from this something good will come to you.”

This has been on my heart for a while.  I get stuck in the fact that God isn’t doing anything to help my situation, or isn’t moving fast enough, or really I scream out; “WHERE ARE YOU? I mean how long can you leave a girl hanging in the depths of ugly! Right?  I’m assuming I’m not alone in this. Then to try and grasp the concept that good will come to me if I just give it to Him. Hmmmm. So really, I’ve gotta be missing something. That’s what I came too.

“Give in to God”……..This totally made me think of my kids immediately.  How often do we get to a point of, “Fine, here, I’ll give it to you!” because we are so done fighting, so done trying to hold our own ground, so done trying to get them to see what WE are doing is right.  You see where I’m going with this don’t you? Although sometimes with our kids, we should probably hold our ground more (wink wink) yet with Christ, we need to get to a place of…’Fine, here, I’ll give it to you!’ because guess what, holding onto it isn’t really doing us any good or helping our situation is it?  Maybe we struggle with it because it sounds too good to be true, or we don’t feel worthy enough to have good come to us, maybe we are more comfortable in the pain. I’m seeing that making peace with God and the situations we are in is where the focus should be and not so much on the ‘Where are you God?’ Let’s be honest, our way isn’t working really well.  We are still in the crazy land of pain. Giving in to God doesn’t mean the pain and reality of life disappears, but it does lighten the load. Sometimes we need to dig back into those times where we had this overwhelming peace when we knew we should’ve been going down. That’s Him! That’s the goodness! The good for our lives isn’t always Him pulling us completely out of the situation or pain, it’s Him jumping into it to transform how we feel towards it.

Do you struggle to ‘give in to God’?  Can you put your finger on why? Take some time today to really dig into those rooted feelings that hold you back from releasing to Him.

“God is the best listener.  You don’t need to shout, nor cry out loud because He hears even the very silent prayer of a sincere heart.”
