Tattoos Baby

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are God’s own possession.  You have become this people so that you may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called you out of darkness into his amazing light.”

I love tattoos.  I have tattoos AND I love Jesus.  I know crazy right?! (I’m totally rolling my eyes!) There are so many people who have questioned my tattoos. It doesn’t help that there is a verse in Leviticus (specifically Leviticus 19:28) that says, do not cut your bodies or put tattoo marks on yourself. Well, I guess I’m screwed! Ha Ha! Seeing that all the above exist in my life. There’s really no where in the Bible that talks specifically about ink tattoos. In this verse, they are speaking more of slashing their bodies for the dead or as a ritual. Actually in the King James version, it only uses the word ‘mark’ not tattoo. I mean, Jesus hung out with the outcast, prostitutes, the sick so I’m pretty sure He’s gonna be loving on me with all my tats. Bottom line, tattoos rock and so does Jesus.  Now let’s get to what this devo is really about.

I have an abundance of lovely scars all over my body. I was ask once why I wasn’t doing more to cover them or heal them.  Like get a cream or some special oil or something so that they aren’t so noticeable. Seriously?! You are worried about people seeing my scars instead of the reason behind them? That’s when I was like, I’m going to heal my scars through Christ laying himself on top of them.  So that’s how it went. Every single one of my tattoos tells a story of my healing in Jesus. It’s my journal. His precious love for me is completely spread across all of my scars. I will always remember, that through Him, the darkness CANNOT win. It may try and holy you know what has it ever!  BUT my Saviour has rescued me each and every time so why would I not want the whole world to see it every single day! Not to say, it’s completely therapeutic for me. If you get what I’m saying. Something sharp, poking at me. I know, hard to understand but you still love me anyways!

Here’s the scoop.  We all have scars. Whether they are visible or more attached to our hearts, we have them.  So many of us are afraid we will be judged, or looked down upon, or assume no one will love us for who we are or what we’ve done.  I call bull crap! Dude, Christ is the healer and lover of all things and we’ve gotta take our broken selves and stand tall. We need to believe that He will doing amazing things through us so that we can go share with everyone. There’s not a day that goes by that someone doesn’t ask  about the meaning of one of my tattoos. Totally opens the door for Jesus. I wouldn’t be breathing if it wasn’t for Him, joy wouldn’t exist, and a life a love wouldn’t be had. We all need to sit in the beauty of our scars. See them as war wounds that make us stronger and use them to help others. You are INCREDIBLE because of your scars.

Where is your deepest scar?  Have you allowed yourself to heal and be loved in that wound? It’s the greatest gift God gives us, to heal the brokenness and allow the world to see you whole through Him. You just need to let Him.

“I hope you will rise up with strength of a lioness and bring god-wonder wherever you go.  Then together we will be that force this world has never seen.’
